传说在清乾隆年间,扬州梅花岭右侧天宁寺有一位名叫文思的和尚,善制各式豆腐菜肴。特别是用嫩豆腐、金针菜、木耳等原料制做的豆腐汤,滋味异常鲜美,前往烧香拜佛的佛门居士都喜欢品尝此汤,在扬州地区很有名气,这在《扬州画舫录》中曾有记载。

据说当年乾隆皇帝曾品尝过此菜,还一度成为清宫名菜。因该菜为文思和尚所创,人们便称它为“文思豆腐”,一直流传至今。
